Hello,
I am an American living in Canada who has taken a great interest in learning Urdu. Since Toronto is a very culturally diverse city, I know many people who speak Urdu and I wish to learn as much as I can. It is also helpful for translation assistance as well. I have been self-teaching myself through books for about a year and would love structured lessons and conversationa l help. I can read and write the script already. I have learned the nashk style script, but can change easily without any problems. I listen to Hindi music and have learned a great deal from that as well as watching Indian movies and any Urdu or Hindi language television that I can. I hope someone will respond with helpful information for me and plans on getting started quickly.

My company is a global leader in financial industry research and advisory services.
I am currently exploring all avenues that I can think of (!!) in my search for fluently bilingual people to conduct research for us. We currently have particular need for more people who speak Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese, but Spanish, Portuguese and French are always in demand around here as well. The work is conducted largely by telephone (in our office in Toronto or from home offices) and is interesting, very challenging and pays well. The interviews we conduct are very sophisticated financial conversations with senior level executives.

I briefly studied Mandarin while spending a couple of years in Taiwan (teaching English). I have textbooks that I brought back to Canada, from which I'd like to learn. I'm also intersted in learning using the bo-po-mo-fo method (the phonetic/trad itional method of pronunciation ), NOT Pin-yin or Wade-Giles. I would like to do private (one on one) lessons. Somewhere close to downtown Toronto (I work on Bay St.) And would be interested in 2 hour/ maybe one evening a week. Please contact me if you have experience with the Bo-Po-Mo-Fo system and this one-evening-p er-week schedule would be okay for you.

I am a beginner, however I do/did know Spanish (I am not sure if that helps or hinders).
I want to learn Italian for personal reasons. It is a beautiful language.
As to language lessons and time, I am not sure. I work full time. Ideally, I was thinking of finding once a week classes.
