I am a 21 year old anglophone who would like to learn a third language. I am already proficient in French and am interested in learning different languages because I travel extensively. I am a beginner with virtually no prior Spanish experience. While I have always wanted to learn a second language, I now have opportunities for doing business in Latin and South America. Since I work in the medical field, I would like to learn terminology in addition to basic conversationa l Spanish.
I am not sure how much time I would like to invest, only because I do not know how much it will require to get me to a functioning level. However, I would expect to spend no less than 1 hour per day on the lessons/study . At this point, it is difficult to know how effective distance learning of Spanish can be, and how much lesson time is required. I am also considering attending an immersion program, though cost becomes more of an issue.
Reg arding qualities in a teacher, I believe understanding learning styles is most important. I am a very detail, task-oriented person, but like to be able to visualize the big picture of how a teaching method will be effective.
