I wish to learn Brazilian Portugese because I will be working for a year in Rio de Janeiro, starting mid-summer 2012. I speak French very fluently, and I have learned a little Spanish. I am totally a beginner in Portugese. I don`t need to speak Portugese at work, but I do want to be able to conduct activities of daily life in Portugese, such as getting around, shopping, banking, renting an apartment, and light social conversation. I am prepared to take 4 hours of instruction per week (2 classes of 2 hours weekly), with homework to consolidate the learning.
I can go to the instructor`s office anytime on Thursdays and Fridays, and in the evening (5-7 pm) on Mondays or Tuesdays. The lessons and teacher should provide me with grounding in enough Portugese grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation to be able to speak at a basic level, and permit me to understand when spoken to.

Hi there!
I am starting a job placement in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in April 2012. I am a beginner and want to be able to converse with locals outside the office - I am unlikely to need to know Brazilian Portuguese for work purposes. I am currently doing both Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone courses, but want to spend time with a native speaker to consolidate and improve my learning. I'm a working professional in Human Resources keen on traveling and providing business consulting as a freelancer. I'm keen on learning portugese as I would be traveling to South America ( Brazil & Peru ) for business opportunities there. This is my first visit to South America and intend to stay in Brazil for a year to start with. I'm looking for a teacher in portugese for live -in person learning who is good in English too.
