My mother is Japanese and every year or so we will travel to Japan to visit my grandparents. Unfortunately I don't know Japanese well enough. Only basic things such as directions, numbers, or random animals. I would like to learn more to make my future trips more enjoyable. I am a beginner in Japanese language. I am fond of watching English subtitled Japanese dramas and anime and from that I have learned a little Japanese (common phrases). During high school I became interested in Japanese culture and because of that I hope to visit Japan someday. I would love to learn their language so that I would be able to understand their culture more . Learning the language would also help me in expanding career opportunities .
My goal is to be able to converse well in Japanese. I don't know exactly how long would it take for a person learning a new language to do that so I would like to hear suggestions/c omments from teachers about this.
As for the qualities I am looking for in a teacher, I would like someone who is hardworking, patient and is really concern about you learning the language.
